ALDEC
Alfa Laval ALDEC decanter centrifuges are designed for the sludge thickening and dewatering process in municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment plants, with a focus on cost-efficiency, reliability, easy operation and sustainability.
Decanter centrifuge design provides a series of concrete benefits
- Reduces sludge volume, which cuts down on transport and disposal costs
- High capacity at small footprint: Compact, modular design saves space
- High performance combined with low energy consumption
- Wear-resistant design with 360 degree solids discharge feature
- Complete, fully enclosed cleaning-in-place (CIP)

Less water, lower cost
Decanter centrifuges are crucial for removing the water content of sludge from municipal water (residuals) and of wastewater (biosolids) plants, as well as from industrial waste streams. The drier the sludge, the less space it takes up and the less it weighs – both resulting in big savings on transport and disposal costs, while also helping to meet sustainability and environmental goals.
Low energy consumption and labor costs
With ALDEC decanter centrifuges, you benefit from low energy consumption and infrequent maintenance costs, keeping sludge thickening and dewatering expenses to a minimum. They are also fully automatic, so you need less labor to operate a centrifuge verses other dewatering technologies.
How it works
ALDEC decanter centrifuges separate the liquid components from a stream of feed solids in a rotating horizontal cylinder (the bowl) fitted with a screw conveyor inside. The feed enters the bowl through a stationary inlet tube and is accelerated smoothly by the feed zone. This gives rise to a centrifugal force that makes the separated-out solids collect on the wall of the bowl.
The conveyor and the bowl rotate in the same direction, but at different speeds. This has the effect of moving the wastewater solids towards the conical end of the bowl, where they can be removed. The liquid components in the sludge leave the bowl by flowing over adjustable plate dams into the casing.
This technology – in which Alfa Laval is the world leader – results in exceptionally effective dewatering and thickening, with optimum performance.
